Under 1000 minted, it is estimated that not much more than 200 of both 1796 and 1797 halves exist today in all grades. This is the rarest Type coin in silver among all US coins. This example has a medium tone and has considerable hair and wing feather details remaining. A real find and much, much stronger than Fine 12s, which when encountered, have far less interior detail. Full rims. A nearly identical specimen, another PCGS graded F-15 of the same date, sold for $69,000 incl. buyer's fee at the recent July ANA Heritage Auction in Baltimore. Coin World trends lists this coin at 70K in FINE 12 and 90K in VF 20.    This RARE Half has increased in value 15% the last 3 months, and 28% over the last year. A definate Blue Chip investment coin.
